Summer in the Box Room

Gavin Hellyer One of Benjamin's more experimental releases with wonderful use of basic sounds and field recording techniques. But above all with Benjamin, regardless of structure or approach, it's mostly about the atmosphere for me. I love this guy. PS: I've just seen the videos he made for this record with old mostly black and white occassionally disturbing footage. I'm showing my age but I spotted a young Dick York(Bewitched TV Series) and an also young Joan Sims(Carry On Films). Favorite track: Ms. Chlorphenamine.

about

With his first release on The Glass Reservoir Record, Benjamin Shaw has given us something rather special: Half an hour of slapped, strangled and sweetly caressed tape-hiss. Sometimes, good things come from claustrophobic summers.

Pre orders start from 25th January, one month before release. All pre-orders will receive an exclusive track, Mandible Candle, from the sessions.

The first in a series of recordings which examine the boundaries between electronic and acoustic sound. Commissioning works from a range of artists, with the only requirement that each recording includes both sound generated synthetically (computer, synthesizer, noiseboxes) and sound from the real world (instrumentation, field recordings, samples).

Each release will comprise a limited edition of 50 handmade CDs, as well as being available to download.

Previous praise for Benjamin Shaw:

"Superb." - Drowned in Sound

"You wouldn't want everyone (or anyone else) to sound to like Benjamin Shaw but I'm delighted someone does." - The Line Of Best Fit

"Benjamin Shaw is an outcast, a loner, a maverick and a freak. All of these are compliments." - CLASH Music

"A truly special album - 4/5" - Music OMH

"An album that is quite unlike anything else, full of blackened charisma and a sonic imagination quite different to most - 8/10." - The Music Fix
